from

Tashkent

to NYC

Akmal Rakhimov received his diploma from the Ilkhom Theatre of Mark Weil School of Drama Studio 7 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 2012. The three year conservatory program honed Akmal in the methods of Stanislavsky, Chekhov, Vakhtangov, Grotovsky, Meyerhold, and of course, Mark Weil. For five years Akmal performed as a lead actor in 11 of the Ilkhom Theatre's rotating mainstage repertory in Russian & Uzbek. In March 2013, Akmal performed at the Golden Mask Festival in Moscow, Russia with SounDrama Studio's production of "Rain Behind the Wall". Currently in NYC, Akmal has immersed himself in building theatrical ensembles in echo of the Russian method while embracing the grit & enthusiasm of American theatre makers. He seeks to break the binds of what New Yorkers believe theatre to be, and bring his authentic lieu of experience, perspective, linguistics & soul into all that he creates.
